Heating Systems Training Day

Plumbing Wise is soon to take on another apprentice. To prepare for this, Peter and Rob have been designing some training boards based on the heating systems that are commonly found in domestic properties.

Boiler Repair Checks

Nearly 1 in 3 new boilers will break down in their first 6 years of operation, according to consumer organisation, Which.

If you think that your boiler needs to be repaired, there are a few quick checks you can do before you call a Gas Safe Registered Engineer.

Make sure to check that you don’t have a gas supply problem, if you do then call your gas supplier.
Check your power supply at the mains, there may be a problem with the electricity, in which case you should call your electricity supplier.
Your boiler’s pilot light may have gone out. This can happen for a variety of reasons, if this happens you can try and ignite it yourself, consult your manual for instructions.
Ensure that your thermostat is turned on.
Modern boilers should have a pressurised system. Check that the pressure is set to the manufacturer’s instructions. Usually it will be between 1.0 – 1.5 on the gauge. If it less than this, you probably need to refill and restart your system.
