A Leicestershire borough is leading the way in heat saving tactics by rolling out state of the art vehicles across the town of Melton that pinpoint poorly insulated houses. The HeatSeeker vehicles developed by the Energy Saving Partnership use thermal imaging technology to identify property’s which are lacking sufficient insulation.

With the prolonged cold weather of winter meaning households become more reliant on central heating, ensuring the heat that is generated is being put to good use can have a huge effect in saving money on heating bills.

Figures gathered by the Guardian newspaper found 20% of heat is lost through poor ventilation and draughts, while 15% is lost through the roof of a house. Warm Front Scheme

Grants are available for people over the age of 60 as part of the Warm Front Scheme. The scheme, that is designed to improve heating and insulation in the home, gives people over the age of 60 a £300 grant for any boiler repair or replacement.

The Warm Front Scheme has been extremely successful in helping senior residents gain more efficient and sustainable homes. Since 2001 thousands of people have used the Warm Front Scheme to make necessary insulation and heating installations.

Plumbing Wise are registered installers under The Warm Front scheme to carry out such installations.

How does it work?

Plumbing Wise will gladly assist you in completing the form to ascertain if you are eligible for the grant or not. If you are, then you will be provided with a voucher with a unique reference code attributed to it. Upon completion of the installation, payment for the installation will be provided to Plumbing Wise from yourself less the rebate of £300 . After this, Plumbing Wise will, using the reference number provided on the voucher, then apply to Warmfront for the £300 that is outstanding.

Now that’s a pleasant surprise!

I’ve recently been in contact with Andy to arrange a service for my boiler.

There was nothing fancy in the request, just a service.

But it is always a reassuring feeling when you have an appointment booked that the tradesman doing the service appears and appears on time.

9 o’clock on the dot and Andy arrived.

The service was done professionally and Andy made sure I understood what was involved in the process and that I personally saw the result of the gas meter testing. In fact after he was done, he even swept up some dust and debris that was in the boiler cabinet. Now that’s a pleasant surprise!
