The Plumbing Wise team of heating engineers recently completed a replacement boiler installation in the London Docklands at West India Docks.
The clients had been experiencing problems with an old Potterton ProMax boiler system, which had been condemned by Potterton, owing to the fact that it was considered unsafe to use.
On arrival on site, Andy our heating engineer inspected and tested the boiler. It was apparent that there was a problem with a pinhole in the flue at the rear of the boiler. This is a fault that we have commonly seen on older Potterton boiler systems and one which is very difficult to repair. After looking at the cost to repair the fault it became apparent that the safest and most economical solution for the client was to replace the old boiler with a modern boiler system.
In this case the benefits of replacing the boiler were:
- It was the safest option
- The cost for replacement parts and labour was not viable
- A new boiler would be more cost efficient
- Reduced energy consumption /costs
- A combination boiler meant the hot tank could be removed; freeing-up space in the hallway cupboard

Having identified the above benefits and the appropriate boiler for the household, Andy quoted for the decommission and removal of the old Potterton ProMax boiler and the hot tank, and installation of a modern replacement boiler; the Vaillant 28Kw Combination boiler. He also included a thermostat control. This was designed to enable the homeowners to have greater control of their central heating’s temperature within the household and further improve the efficiency of their energy consumption.
The homeowners were happy with the quote and the expert advice provided by our experienced Gas Safe Registered heating engineer, and as a result a date was arranged for our heating engineers to complete the replacement boiler installation in the Docklands.
Having removed the Potterton boiler and installed the new Vaiullant 28Kw Combination boiler with a room thermostat, our heating engineers then performed a power flush. This is performed as standard on all Plumbing Wise’s new boiler installations. It means that not only is you central heating system cleaned and your boiler less likely to be damaged.
